Sneezing season is here again. About 1 in 5 Americans suffer from seasonal allergies. Tree pollen is one of the most common spring allergy symptoms and that pollen can trigger an allergic response in many people. Pollen counts are typically highest in the morning, and on warm and windy days. Pollen can be hard to avoid in the spring, when pollen counts are high. Staying indoors and taking other avoidance measures may be most important between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., when allergen levels are typically highest. Steroids can also help serious allergy sufferers. Additionally, acupuncture is recommended when a patient wants a more natural way to ease their symptoms. Doctors should evaluate a patient for allergies if the person suffers from another conditions that is known to be linked to seasonal allergies, such as asthma, eczema and sleep disorders.
If you have not been allergy tested yet, Terrye Mastin, APRN, BC of the Shea Clinic is here to serve your needs. You must be off of oral antihistamines for a week before testing. If you are on a beta-blocker, which is a certain kind of blood pressure/heart medicine, you will need to have a blood test to determine your allergies. If you are interested in knowing if this treatment option is for you, please give us a call and make an appointment with Terrye to be seen for an evaluation. Even if this is not appropriate for you, we can still get you on a treatment regimen that will minimize your allergy and sinus symptoms.
