Unsightly scars can often be greatly improved by what is known as scar revision. This often involves cutting the old scar completely out, then meticulously removing any tension along the scar and repairing the skin. Sometimes we also smooth the scar down (dermabrasion). While the procedures are very effective it is important to realize that it takes a full year for the body to complete the scar repair process, and during this time the scar will progress in appearance from red to purple to brown and eventually to white.
